“A perfect Sunday includes good coffee”. Max Huber on cycling and happiness

This “Thank you, cycling!” blog post is dedicated to Max Huber — the guy you’ve probably seen before in our lookbooks: Echelon and SS2017 collections.

22.8.2017 – Words by Isadore team

Max will share his unique cycling experience, tell us about his idea of perfect happiness and what he does off the bike. Enjoy!

Off the bike, what is your job?

— I run a small design studio, mainly focussing on brand identities, web design and photographic concepts.

How would you describe your relationship with road cycling, in up to 5 words?

— Love. Hate. Suffer. Fate. Balance.

What do you thank cycling for?

— For those golden hour memories riding through the woods surrounding Vienna, whether it be the very early hours or the sunset rides.

When was the last time you tried a new route?

— Actually, yesterday. I was not riding much lately and got on the bike after work to do a little solo spin and went to an area I am not so familiar with and got a bit lost on the roads.

Where did it take you, what did you discover?

— I took me along quiet country roads near Vienna with literally no traffic and some beautiful scenery. I was rather tired and got into a stretch of heavy headwinds barely making my way back. Haha. But it was a nice route and felt satisfying afterward.

Best cycling experience ever?

— Hard to tell, but high on the list was the Isadore trip to Croatia last year. The scenery, mountains, nature, and sunsets were just mesmerizing, and I would love to go back. Another good one was also last year to the lake district in Austria with my friends from the Singi Crew. We rode around Attersee, Wolfgangsee and up some exciting mountain roads.

What is the most marked characteristic of your current bike? What do you love about it?

— It’s a titanium frame by a small manufacturer from Germany, paired with a black ENVE fork and a classic looking wheelset. I built it with my friend Josh and I just love the timelessness it conveys.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

— To be contempt with what you have, to really appreciate the good life we are having. Or to put a name on it, a perfect Sunday includes good coffee, an interesting book, outdoor activity of some sorts and a home cooked dinner with my wife. Pretty simple.

Performance or joy?

— Mostly joy, although joy sometimes gets mixed up with performance, especially on solo rides.

What can you do today that you could not do a year ago?

— Meditate :)
