It’s all about your mindset. Rainy summer days on a bike can be as joyful as the sunny ones - the gentle drops falling on your shoulders, the smell of the warm&wet asphalt, the touch of the fresh breeze on your skin. Feels like a small rebirth.

To enjoy it fully, make sure to choose the proper jacket, enhance your vision, and avoid storm. We'll give you a few tips.

Choose the right jacket

Even though it rains, the air temperature stays relatively high. Trying to protect yourself from soaking, remember to keep your body ventilated.

Here is a bucket list of qualities a proper summer jacket must have:

  • water resistant
  • breathable
  • wind-proof
  • light and compact
  • visible

There are two Isadore products will serve your need: Essential Jacket and Medio Membrane Gillet.

Both are made from two types of Membrane material (80% PA, 20% PU) that maintain the optimal body temperature and protect from soaking. Reflective patches will make you visible for drivers.

The temperature outside rarely goes too low, but if it does you can get yourself something warmer like Merino Softshell Jacket - also the best option for autumn/winter season.

Enhancing visibility

Rain worsens visibility. When choosing the cycling eyewear, opt for clear or yellow lenses: they protect your eyes from raindrops and brighten up the road.

To increase visibility more, wear the cycling cap that will shield your glasses. We suggest you trying our Signature Cap from a wide range of looks.

Slow down

Even the best cycling gear will will not save you from slipping on a wet road if you don’t follow the basic rules. When it rains, corners, potholes and puddles are the most hazardous things on your way. We strongly advise you to slow down (without hard braking), especially on the turns, and pay attention on the road.

Storm

Sometimes, the innocent rain can turn into a dangerous thing - a storm. That's when fun changes to caution.

Here is our advice, if you happen to be caught by a thunderstorm:

  • Remember: having rubber tyres does not protect you from the stroke at all.
  • Once you know that the storm is approaching and you hear the first roar of the thunder- immediately search for a shelter. Open areas like bus stops won’t help much - try to get inside a building or a car.
  • Keep yourself away from high isolated objects (trees, columns etc.) and water - these are the most likely to receive a hit.
  • If you cannot find a shelter, search for thick woods. Though you are not 100% secure, the bigger amount of trees, the lower the probability of stroke to the place where you are. When in the woods, keep yourself away from trees (no leaning). Put off all metal things from your body (bike, accessories, devices).
  • Do not group if you are cycling with someone else. The bigger target you are, the more chances to get a bolt.
  • The worst case: no shelter, no woods, storm is just above your head. Get off the bike, squat low to the ground, making a ball out of yourself. Your legs must be put together: minimize contact with the ground. Try to make as small target of yourself as possible, but don’t lie on the ground.
  • The best lightning protection is following the forecast before you hit the road. If there are a chance of a storm, better stay home and wait for a nicer weather.
