ThisIsMyClimb – the winners

From the pool of 269 pictures we to pick three winners.

Cycling and photography is inseparably intertwined. Whether it is a picture of a stage winner crossing the line of a Grand Tour, a picture of the crowd, your favorite piece of apparel or the stunning roads which we ride - photography is constantly at the very heart of cycling.

Photography not only documents, but equally inspire others to grab their bikes and go searching for the great unknown and share the finds with likeminded riders.

This is why Isadore Apparel loves photography - it creates cycling memories and evokes passion and a sense of adventure about our sport.

As part of our #THISISMYCLIMB photo competition we asked you to share your local climbs and hill secrets with us. The result proved a total of 269 pictures, and that there are beautiful climbs to be found everywhere. You just need to search for them.

From the pool of 269 pictures we asked Isadore Apparel founder MARTIN VELITS, together with Isadore photographer PETER MERCIAR and Pro rider PETER VELITS, to pick three winners. As the dust from the subsequent in-fight has settled we are now able to reveal the lucky winners.

IRINI KARIDA’S picture perfectly encapsulates the loneliness of the climber, and beautifully illustrates the moment, when nearing the top of your climb, and everything opens up. The 50/50 composition, split between road and sky, frames the picture and draws attention to the climber in the center. It is a great example of an inspiring cycling memory and the beauty of a local climb.

While most people often shoot pictures of others it was noteworthy, from the pool of pictures sent by ANDRÉ CARVALHO, that 99,9% of the time he was riding on his own, and all pictures were taken with a self-timer.

We applaud the efforts and the ability to make all pictures look relaxed, cool and framed without André looking like a deer caught in the headlights. André’s winning picture is taken on Serra de Montemuro soaked in orange glow from the setting sun, and beautifully captures an adventurous evening ride on a remote gravel section.

Cycling photography is not always about getting your pictures razor-sharp. The action often lies in the blurred road and surroundings, and draws attention to the rider in focus. Shooting pictures of this kind takes practice as you not only need to continue riding your bike, but also frame the picture and look effortlessly relaxed about the entire thing at the same time.

PAREZ’S picture was chosen because it at the same time also manages to show the length of his Sunday evening climb while incorporating the elements of above.
