How to care for merino wool materials

Merino wool is the basis of Isadore's production. If you take good care of it, it can last for years as part of your regular equipment.

Natural antibacterial properties

Merino wool has natural antibacterial properties which means it does not require washing after each use. Unlike cotton and synthetic materials, real merino wool does not retain odors and keeps clothes fresher for longer. Considering the level of soiling, it is sufficient to take clothes containing merino wool out in the fresh air for a few hours.

Maximum temperature of 30°C

When washing is unavoidable, turn the clothes inside out and select the most gentle wash cycle with maximum temperature of 30°C (86˚F), low spin speed (600 – 800 rpm), taking no longer than 60 minutes. Do not use fabric softener, bleach or bio washing powder. Fabric softener coats wool fibers and reduces their natural ability to regulate temperature and wick away moisture. Bio washing powder contains bacteria that react with natural material and cause its faster degradation.

Only similar colors

Put only pieces of similar colors in the washing machine to prevent them staining each other. After some time, lint forms in areas exposed to frequent friction. This cannot, though, be considered a defect of the product but a natural property of the material. To reduce the risk of wear and tear and to extend the durability, use the washing net.

Never in the dryer

Never put merino wool clothes in the dryer. Ideally, dry the garment in a horizontal position, which prevents the deformation of your favorite piece of cycling clothing.

Use a steam iron

If you need to iron your clothes, turn them inside out and avoid ironing prints. Before gently placing the iron on it, spray it with a small amount of water. Ironing will be easier and faster. Ideally, use a steam iron.

Synthetic materials are the easiest to maintain and wash.

Membrane materials with water-repellent properties

The special DWR coating and the membrane itself repels water and prevents soaking. However, they require special care.
