Membrane materials with water-repellent properties

The special DWR (durable water repellent) coating and the membrane itself repels water and prevents soaking. However, they require special care.

Membrane

When it rains, water drops remain on a properly functioning membrane, and are not absorbed but repelled by the material, and slide slowly under the bicycle wheels. The top layer thus safely protects against moisture and keeps you dry even in heavy rain.

Washing is important

If you are one of those people who think that waterproof clothing loses its properties through washing, you believe in an old and untrue myth. A dirty and clogged membrane does not work. Washing is important to remove residual dirt and sweat, which are best visible on the hem of the collar and sleeves. Also in case the membrane jacket absorbs water.

Use a washing net

Before washing, empty the pockets, close all zippers and loosen the drawstrings. Always put only a few pieces of clothing of similar colors in the washing machine and do not combine them with ordinary clothes. For longer durability and less mechanical wear, use a washing net.

Follow the recommendations

Follow the recommendations on the label when selecting a wash mode. Temperature 30°C (86˚F), gentle cycle with low spin speed of up to 800 rpm, and washing time not longer than 60 minutes. Use a detergent specially designed for functional clothing with a membrane, but without impregnation. Powder with impregnation creates an undesirable repellent layer inside the garment and reduces breathability and thermoregulatory properties. Avoid using fabric softener, bleach and bio powder.

Apply a layer of impregnation spray

After the wash cycle, rinse the garment once more to make sure no powder remains on the garment and leave it to dry freely. After drying, test the absorbency of the material. Simply spray a few drops of water on the outer surface of the fabric. If the water runs off the clothes, the water-repellent coating is working properly. If the fabric absorbs water, it is time to revive the DWR. Apply a layer of impregnation spray according to the manufacturer's instructions; this will restore the water-repellent properties of the garment.
